Quite a few of our public sector clients are busy in planning their digital strategies. But to my surprise, one of my potential clients told me although they have their digital strategy, they don’t have directions to implement it and they don’t know how.

Before we move forward, we need to understand what’s included in the digital strategy of an organization. Generally, digital strategy is to use digital technologies, including mobile,  social media, big data and analytics, and the IoTs (Internet of Things), to create new opportunities for innovative business models, based on the vision, mission and goals of the organization.

I had engagement to setup Oracle WebCenter Portal and Content for a public sector client before. It took a few days to complete. The procedure to setup enterprise level application is not always smooth. Usually you get fairly complete installation guide, but you could get lost very easily because of two many dependencies in those documents.

In order to make everybody’s life easier, I write down below installation steps for Oracle WebCenter Content 11gR2. With this guidance, you could finish it in a cozy afternoon, then enjoy the sunset at beach park.

1. Download software;
   1. VMware WS 12.0.1 Player for Linux 64bit (free) or Virtual Box 5.0.8 (free);
   2. Oracle Database 11g Express (free);
   3. Oracle Fusion Middleware RCU (Repository Creation Utility) 11g (11.1.1.1.9.0) for Linux x86-64 (561M);

When we do datacenter virtualization or migration, we often need do P2V (Physical to Virtual) design. It involves estimation of the capacity on ESXi server since we neither want to over-commit the computing power of the virtual server, nor to keep redundant computing power.
